Carmen Melton Bennett is an “atypical” songwriter in every sense of the word. Residing in a small town in south Alabama, she has written well over 300 songs and had 35 (maybe more) songs recorded by 14 different artists (probably more) and counting. What makes her story remarkable is she does not live in a major music center but has secured cuts in a wide range of genres to include country, gospel, bluegrass, indie, folk, and smooth jazz! She writes with writers and artists all over the world despite having a “day job” as a therapist for troubled teenagers, being a mom to five (!) kids, a wife to her amazingly awesome husband, and catering to her ever shifty Siamese cat, Sapphire.
Oh, yeah, and she owns Atypical Music Publishing and Services (A.M.P.S.) which is comprised of two independent publishing companies, Awesome Musings Publishing (BMI) and Atypical Music Publishing (ASCAP). She also founded South Alabama Songwriters (SAS) in 2019 which now boasts 278 members online! If you want it done, give it to Carmen. She will most definitely, “get it done” and “get it done right!”
As of 2022, Carmen has added “comic” to her list of stellar achievements. She and her husband Phillip have formed the C& P Comedy Factory and have performed in AL, FL, NY! Stay tuned for more! There is also talk that Carmen is writing her first musical- whoa!
As 2024 comes to a close, Carmen can now add LMSW to her list of accomplishments. She graduated with a Master’s in Social Work in July and passed her licensing exam in August! That makes TWO Master’s! Yes, she is proud!
Also, C& P Comedy has now been a part of over 80 shows and now have their own website at: www.cpcomedyfactory.com!
