Atypical & Awesome “Rocking the VFW and other Oddities”
So, yesterday I went to a VFW for the first time ever. Several friends in the local music scene performed during an all-day charity event raising money for the local Boys and Girls Club. So, I arrived right as things were getting started. Ernie’s Food Truck was plugged in a ready to go outside. A guy in a big truck pulled up next to me blaring music. He hops out and starts smoking with the bouncer/welcoming committee. Another guy shows up in a Johnny Cash t-shirt. I’m thinking- boy, howdy this is gonna be an adventure. So I go in and hear an electric guitar playing the Star Spangled Banner and I assume someone is watching an Eddie Van Halen tribute on a tv somewhere. The lady at the bar tells me to go on through to the back because that is where they are selling tickets. I continue on and the music gets louder. A guy on stage is playing the Star Spangled Banner on electric guitar while a local Boy Scout troop is doing a flag ceremony. What alternate universe have ai landed in? I’m not sure but I like it. I pay my admission and enter into the room. I enjoy an afternoon of music and friends complete with one can of Coke, some fries from Ernie’s food truck, and a few pieces of $5 jewelry purchased from the lady bartender’s costume jewelry display. It was oddly enjoyable and I was home by 3;30 pm. I really can’t make this stuff up. See ya next time, VFW!
