Atypical & Awesome, “Poetry, Coffee, and Returning to My Roots”

Lately, I have been down in the dumps. Like, really down. I finally realized the obvious. I have been missing my creative outlets so much. By chance I saw the notification Wednesday night about one of my favorite open-mic poetry events taking place Thursday. I did not hesitate and within minutes had signed up to present the next night.

Hosted by Patrick Pezelj and held at Mural City Coffee it was exactly what I needed. The space is gorgeous and the cappuccino with a brown sugar swirl accompanied by two caramel apple macarons was spot on. I presented a few pieces and it felt nice to be back with kindred spirits. I even caught up with one of my cowriters there so it was a wonderful evening.

Next month, I’ll be taking a playwrighting workshop through SEACT and can’t wait. I hunger for creative outlets and look forward to really diving into the musical that is starting to percolate in my brain. Songwriting, blogging, poetry, comedy (two shows this week) - it all comes from the same place in me. I am grateful for opportunities to share with others. Thank you for being a part of the journey.
