Atypical & Awesome, “Wonderful Weekend and the Biggest Victory Ever”

Wow! Such a great weekend and SO much to tell! Saturday, I met AMPS writer, Dennis Powell (“Midnight Makes Me Crazy”, “Cold , Dark, and Lonely”) and his lovely wife Marianne for coffee and to talk all things songwriting and publishing. We have some fun things in the pipeline to work on in the coming months so be sure to stay tuned.

Sunday, we travelled to Montgomery and had brunch with Alex. We brought back the car Alex had been using as they just bought their first “grown-up” car. It was a sweet visit and we enjoyed seeing Salem as well. Salem is enjoying apartment life and talked our ears off.

Monday. Monday was the day. I tested for licensing. I was bottle of nerves and the power in the testing center went out when I had five questions left on the test. The test is 170 questions. I literally thought I was going to cry. But after about 30 minutes, power was restored and I was able to resume the test. I needed a 98 to pass andI made a 124! Wow! This was such a victory for me because of the adversity I had to overcome to get to this point. This has been 21 years in the making. It is surreal but we made it.

We. I cannot emphasize the importance of surrounding yourself with those who want to see you succeed. My parents. My kids. A few close friends and mentors. And most of all, my life partner, Phillip. He is my rock. I may be the “rock star” (according to him) but he’s the rock. When a couple elevates and supports each other- there are no limits. I shared this “victory” with my team- WE did it- Carmen M Bennett, LMSW, MS.
