Atypical & Awesome “What to Say”

Last night, I participated in a spoken word open-mic at the Wiregrass Museum of Art in Dothan. Phillip was there to support me and we heard some really great performers. I presented one of the most intense poems I’ve written and also the prelude and a snippet of the first chapter of a book I am working on. It’s a really cool event and a great way to try out one’s works in progress on a receptive audience.

As an added bonus, I found out today I won tickets to the WMA’s Yard Party for Art event this weekend. I have wanted to go for several years so I’m super excited. I even ordered a special full-length Boho dress for the occasion. Time to dig out those sit-upons and afghans. Sounds like my cup of Bohemian tea.

After the event last night, we hopped over a couple of streets to Mural City Coffee Company to catch their monthly songwriter event, “Play the Cafe” where our friends John Shaw and Mike English were playing. I’ve known both these talents for years and have represented a couple of Mike’s songs through A.M.P.S. They are both great examples of some of the best musicians anywhere are often in your back yard. Both guys have paid dues in Nashvillle, and their ability to “go with the flow” while performing is always impressive. Catch them both when you can- you’ll be glad you did.
