Atypical & Awesome “Merry Christmas Eve”
We finally have a minute to breathe. Ladt night, we visited The Sugar Plum Tree a really sweet tradition revived in our current hometown. Christmas brings forth much nostalgia so I leave you with a poem I wrote a few years ago:
Christmas of 78
We’ll put the Carpenters on the record player; light up the fiberoptic tree
Pour a mug of eggnog; watch the Waltons on tv
Let’s gather round the fondue pot; spread that retro holiday cheer
Cause deep in our hearts we know it’s been a very good year
God bless the Christmas of 78
It seems so simple now
How I miss those old school days
That just slipped away some how
We can ride in the back of the station wagon to grandma’s house tonight
Where we can eat fruitcake and flip through the tv guide
Maybe take a walk around the neighborhood check out the yard displays
Bubble lights in windows, plastic nativities and Santa’s sleigh
God bless the Christmas of 78
It seems so simple now
How I miss those old school days
That just slipped away some how
Grandma got a new stove, so down the hill on a cardboard box we go
Oh, how things seem so magical when you look through the rearview
So good tidings to all and Merry Retro Christmas to you!
