Atypical & Awesome “Big Wheel Keep On Turnin’”
Oh, my heart, yall. So many feels! Due to my reentering grad school, I’m stepping away from something that’s been a part of my life for the past four years- singing in choir at church. While it saddens me, it is the necessary thing to do… at least for now. But as Schwarzennegger said, “I’ll be back”.
Let’s talk about Thursday night- open-mic at Happy Times in Ozark. Alice Nelson did a fantastic job hosting. I was VERY anxious (I have stage fright, believe it or not) but yall, I did stand-up, again! I did much better this time and am already thinking about my next time behind the mic! And, boy did I get an unexpected treat. The Alice Nelson Band played, “Girlfriend” live!!! Yes, I’ve heard it a ton live but not with the full band. My heart ❤️ Audience members were singing along, phones were out recording, and the whole room was captivated. I feel like such a proud mama, big sister, mentor, bestie- whatever term you want to use- but Alice, honey- I’m still tearing up. The Alice Nelson Band will be setting fire to the Wiregrass soon. I see real big things on the horizon.
Phillip got home late last night and had to be up early so we didn’t hit any shows last night. Several friends played out and there are more tonight. If you can, get out and support your local music scene. Some of the most talented people you’ll hear are often in your own neighborhood. Go to shows, support venues that PAY for live music (and pay their PRO fees- so songwriters get paid), and help your local music thrive. Everyone starts somewhere and you just might be a part of history. Hank Williams, Elvis, the Beatles- they all played their first shows somewhere. You just never know.
