Atypical & Awesome, “Something that We Share”
Ah, music- one of my closest and dearest friends. The connector that has joined me to others through countless relationships in my life. Last night, I took our 16 year old to a concert by candlelight in which a string quartet played Taylor Swift songs. While she was appreciative, I would not classify her as a Swiftie. However, I did mot want to go alone so she “took one for the team”. However, she ended up enjoying it and we had a good time.
At the very moment the concert started, my soon to be 26 year old was taking off in a plane bound for Greece. Taylor Swift has kinda been “our thing”. In all her years of growing up and transitioning to different stages (or eras, if you will) Taylor Swift songs have provided an accidental but yet, purposeful commentary.
There was high school, college…. the pandemic where we both listened to “Folklore” on repeat…. her moving to New York (“Have you heard the new TS album? “ texts from a thousand miles away made the move not quite as hard). Then- the concert- she and my niece dancing in the rain a mere few feet from the stage. Videos she took from the concert that went viral on tik tok. Such special memories.
It’s not about Taylor Swift the person or even the performer. It’s about the connection with my daughter and one of the many threads that keep us tied together. She’s in Greece. She turns 26 this week. But she is forever my Autie B. Taylor Swift songs make me smile BIG. What a sweet soundtrack we have had ❤️
