Atypical & Awesome “Up on the Roof”
Phillip treated me to a sweet get-away in conjunction with dropping the kids off at the train station in Tuscaloosa. Due to his travelling A LOT with his job, he’s racked up hotel reward points and perks. We got a room in Tuscaloosa and our hotel had the sweetest little hot cocoa bar. The hotel was decked out in elephants in honor of the Crimson Tide so that was an added plus.
Since it was the weekend between both of our birthdays, we wanted to do something special. We wanted to find live acoustic music but had no luck. We did find a very cool rooftop restaurant on top of Hotel Indigo. We had tapas and sweet tea in goblets under string lights and a gorgeous full moon. It was quite lovely.
Afterwards, we headed back to the hotel for a nightcap of fancy hot cocoa. It really takes very little to thrill me :) I took a nice bubble bath (with a hilarious twist I’ll save for later-lol) which is a treat as the one tub in our home is in the kids’ bathroom. I always pack bubble bath when we travel- just in case:)
Sunday morning, we had a nice hotel breakfast and then headed to the Paul W Bryant Museum. It’s been a year or two since we’e been so it was special to see the Bryce Young display and the props given to the women’s softball program.
We took a few minutes to walk the quad and take the obligatory selfies in front of Denny Chimes. It was our first visit back without a kid at UA in five years. On that same note, we had lunch with Autumn and Alex in Tuscaloosa the day before. I wasn’t sure if we’d have that experience again (with both of them graduated) so that was really special.
Sometimes it’s good to go back- for a moment. It was a special weekend on many levels. Tonight, Autumn and Alex are in New York. Phillip’s watching football. Time marches on. But that full moon- it stays the same.
