Atypical & Awesome “Bonus Track- The Firsts”

We make baby books documenting first steps and words and those tiny little footprints. We cry outside kindergarten windows as we take countless first day of school pictures. Then there’s first dances, and try-out’s, and proms, and driver’s licenses. We sob as we see our babies grow up and relish each first and somberly say goodbye to each “last”. I’ve been a mom for almost 23 years now. The firsts do not stop at eighteen. In fact, the season of firsts we are in now with my adult children is simply exciting, wonderful, and just as poignant as those other firsts. We’ve made it through those first move-in days at college and now four years later- we will only have one child in college. Conner returns to the University of Alabama tomorrow and will move off-campus and into his first apartment. Exciting! Autumn, our recent college grad, is working her first job and today…. (wait for it) got her first paycheck!!! It was a real one!! Whoohoo! Exciting times. Truth be told, every day is filled with beautiful “firsts”. Enjoy every phase of life with your family, life changes but it remains beautiful!
