Atypical & Awesome “Reaping”

It has been an intense week and I have worked hard. By 4:30 pm Friday all day gig work and grad school work was DONE. I am determined to enjoy this three day weekend. Last night. I took myself out for some much needed time away. Phillip is in football mode so I knew his weekend will be in a front of the tv. I just had to get away.

My friends the Black and Gold Band were playing in Ozark at Live at Harlows. I had not been to Harlows in a while so this was a good chance to both support the band and check out the venue. Alice and her mom were also going so I got there early to ensure we had a table as her mom had recently had knee surgery. I got a big hug from both Tanita and Too Tall upon arriving. The band did great and chose songs that showcased Too Tall’s southern rock voice and Tanita’s smooth bass lines. The band has great chemistry on stage and to be a three member piece they hold their own. If you get a chance to check them out- do. And buy a t-shirt.

A few words about Harlow’s… It’s a nice small venue. It’s well decorated with cool music themed paintings. The sound was not overbearing and I appreciated the abundance of tables (your girl has to sit). I’m not a drinker but the bartender took care of me with a nonalcoholic selection. The part that struck a chord (literally) was the sense of community. Everyone knew everyone and if they didn’t they were introduced. This says a lot about the local music community- there is a supportive vibe among many circles which I’d love to see grow. Black and Gold brought a packed house and I’m thrilled. Good job to the band and Harlows.

Now, what should I get into today? Oh yeah, it’s game day. Time to plug in the crock pots. Enjoy your weekend everyone!
