Blue Plate Blog- 30 Days of Peace Day 18- Safety Nets
We all need a good safety net. Yesterday was a tough one emotionally for me. I tried all my “tricks of the trade” but nothing seemed to get me out of my funk. In fact, I kept sinking to that dark, scary place I hate in my brain. My husband came to the bedroom and somehow managed to ask the right questions in a non-threatening way and I unleashed all what was currently bothering me. Furthermore, he provided me with a good solution we can work on together. Then, when I was feeling better we sang karaoke. In that moment, he was my safety net. As a “giver” myself it is so hard to let down my guard with other people. In fact, my job as a therapist is to help others manage their lives. It is so hard to let go and trust someone else to hold the net. But as last night showed me, no matter how good of a tightrope walker I think I am- I need that net. Today’s peace tip- use your safety nets.
