Atypical & Awesome “Quiet”

It is a somber morning as the world remembers 09/11/01. This year is different for me as I have a daughter living in New York. She lives in Brooklyn and will soon be working out of her agency’s Manhattan office on a more regular basis as they return to a hybrid work schedule. New York is such a symbol for the rest of the world of the possibilities America offers. Anyone can come with a dream and “make it here”. At least, that is what we’re told. I’m not sure how much of the American dream still holds true but maybe there is still a glimmer of hope somewhere. America has gone through trauma and is behaving as such. That is a whole different discussion for another day. Today, I simply want to reflect on the pain and hurt still raw after all this time. Some pain never heals. Out of pain, comes one of two things- anger or empathy. There’s been a lot of anger- even towards ourselves. Wouldn’t it be beautiful to see empathy? Love, unity, and compassion for each other? Maybe for today? Honoring those lost by simply being kindhearted- at least for one day? Remember 09/12/01? I sure do. I still love America and I especially, today… love New York.
