30 Days of Peace Day 2

Real-world tip for peace- step away. Take a break from the internet- specifically, social media and news sources. I found my anxiety rising last night as I read posts and comments from friends. Literally, none of my “friends” agree on anything it seems. At a time when solidarity is so important, social media seems to be creating division after division and in many instances tearing apart friendships and relationships. You cannot communicate effectively online. This is coming from a blogger. Only a portion of your intent will ever be interpreted the way you intended. Things get twisted, people get hurt, and anger escalates. Save the hard conversations for in-person. Communication is vital but effective communication in a social media post is rare. Plus, information fatigue and emotional fatigue are very real. Check your social media or news in the morning and then step away until the evening. There is no need to engage for hours in stressful conversations that in the end will have little impact other than to stress out the parties involved. Take a break. Or maybe even pull an Aerosmith and take a permanent vacation from the online flame wars. It is an addiction and it will not be easy but try. See if your stress reduces- I bet it will.
