Atypical & Awesome “I Carried a Watermelon”

Even amongst the busyness of the week, my health issues, and Phillip being gone since Monday I still got some music stuff handled. Saw a lot of live music with Phillip before he left including a few friends of mine who are in a Beatles tribute band, The Magical Mystery Trio. Find them on Facebook, then catch them live somewhere- they evoke a lot of sweet memories and you’ll want to sing along. Also, stopped by the square in Headland for “Music under the Oaks” where Oddly Enough was playing. The band sounded great and the atmosphere was welcoming- will definitely be back. Tuesday night was open-mic at the Craft. Cam Stephens does a fantastic job running the show every week and the Craft was popping. I took Autumn and Reagan with me. We got to hear my girl, Alice Nelson sing one of our newer cowritten sings. On the way out, I stopped by Alice’s table to speak with her and the girls headed out to the car. When I went to leave, the girls were standing outside holding a watermelon. What in the world? They laughed as they told me about a man giving them a watermelon. Turns out, it was Alice’s dad- lol Welcome to Alabama :) Last night, I watched Dave Woods’online show, “Stories, Songs, and Six Strings” and got to see my girl Jessica Lavallee perform a song I was honored to cowrite with Jessica and her father, Terry Lavallee. i’ve written lots of songs with Jessica but to be included on a cowrite with her dad is super special. Check out Jessica Lavallee, Alice Nelson, Cameron Stephens, Oddly Enough, and the Magical Mystery Trio (Sheila Quattlebaum, John Shaw, and Brian A Smith). You’ll be glad you did. And if you see Mr. Nelson, ask him for one of those watermelons.
