Atypical & Awesome, “Working My Tail off in Margaritaville”

Over the past six weeks or so, my life has changed dramatically. I have received a promotion at work which has brought much fulfillment and learning opportunities. I now have two offices on two different campuses and supervise 15 therapists. I am also continuing my own biweekly supervision off-site towards my LICSW. Then, there’s the musical. I have been getting up at 5 am- working the day gig, and then going immediately to rehearsal in Dothan (often with no more than a 10 minute break to run home, feed the cats, check on Reagan and change pants, if I’m lucky). Rehearsals run to 9 pm or later and then I am home at 10 pm or later three nights a week with a fourth rehearsal on Sunday afternoon. That’s home not in bed. We were up at 4 am and 3:30 am at various times this week due to Phillip leaving for work. Do the Math- it’s been rough. Oh yeah, Reagan tripped on a weight and has to see an orthopedist Monday. It feels like it never ends.

But it does. As overwhelming as all this has been, it’s almost over. I am taking off next week from the day gig due to it being show week. Sunday is a ten hour (due to travel) tech day for me followed by shows all week. It has been a learning experience and that is exactly why I committed to this- to give me more insight as I write my own musicals. Yes, you saw an “s”. ;) I have loved some of the elements of the experience and cherish some of the friendships I have made. I am privileged and honored to be a part of this show. Plus, it’s Jimmy Buffett- the perfect “first” show for me.

I will be updating throughout the week as I want to capture my daily experiences and feelings as they occur to make these writings as authentic as possible. I have so much on which to update you- as always, thank you for being a part of this journey.
