Blue Plate Blog 30 Days of Peace Days 27 and 28- Kitchen Therapy and Summer
Yesterday was a sweet day. My 21 year old daughter and I went to a farmer’s market and produce stand. We grabbed coffee while out and then stocked up on fresh summer produce. We snuck off for a secret barbecue lunch and then returned home. We tried our hand at making “from-scratch” creamed corn from some fresh field corn my parents had gifted us. It was a hilarious mess! Corn niblets were flying everywhere! Later that evening, the family hung out together watching true crime documentaries and paranormal shows. At 10:00 pm last night, my daughter and I made 2 types of muffins and put together a Mexican corn casserole for today (using our earlier prepared creamed corn). It was one of those priceless days. Those times mean the world to me. Peace tip for June 27-live in the moment and savor each silly second with your family.
Today, my heart has been filled with nostalgia over the summer memories of my youth. Maybe it was all the summer produce I bought yesterday, maybe it was visiting my parents and my childhood home earlier today, or maybe the excitement of the upcoming July 4 holiday. Summer is a magical time in my memory bank. Yes, I know we are in a hard time right now but I am grateful for happy memories and the memories I hope to create for my kids. Peace tip for June 28- share some of your favorite summer traditions with your kids- spit watermelon seeds, play in the sprinkler, catch fireflies- try to see summer through your child eyes. Have a peaceful day, dear ones!
