Atypical & Awesome “Anniversary”

This month marks the 11th Anniversary for my publishing company, Atypical Music Publishing and Services (A.M.P.S.). I became a publisher my accident. My friend, Dave Wagner had a song an indie artist wanted to cut and he did not want to have to weed through the paperwork so he asked me to publish it. I learned what I could and established, Atypical Music Publishing (ASCAP) and Awesome Musings Publishing (BMI). Dave’s song (cowritten with Greg Fritsche), “Country Girls Rock” recorded by Ashley Baker was the first outside song I represented. I did a lot of pitching for a while and a cut we had a couple of years ago with Hurricane Highway of Ireland, “What She’d Never Do” written by Bobby Joe Peace was FIvE years in the making. The wheels in the music biz can turn slooooow. AMPS represents the songs I write and ten of my cowrites were on the progressive jazz label, Innervision records on cowrites with artists Jay Soto and Neamen Lyles. I am super proud of the work I’ve done with those guys. There have also been cuts with artists Shelly Starks who was signed to Right Recordings (a division of Universal) at the time, Randy Jones (formerly of Lonesome River Band), Chad Roland (produced by Grammy winner Chris Lantham), Otha Allen, Camela Widad, and more you will hear about shortly. It has been a lot of work but I just keep doing what I do. My ultimate goal is to help artists write the best songs they can to represent who they want to be as artists. The expectation is this will increase both of our chances of being successful and producing great songs. Til next time, turn the AMPS up! Follow the AMPS page on FB if you have not. Happy Anniversary, AMPS!
