Atypical & Awesome “The Good, the Bad, and the Pretty”
Let’s start with the pretty. My dress came and Phillip and I got “prettied up” to attend the Wiregrass Museum of Art’s Yard Party. The weather was cordial and we arrived early enough to set up chairs in a shady spot near the stage. The aesthetics were lovely. The museum staff did a great job of adding artistic flair to the “party area” outside. Streamers and lights and tastefully mismatched furniture adorned the lawn giving a shabby chic with a hint of beatnik flair to the event.
Now onto the good. We dined on tamales from the “Taste of Texas Tamales” food truck. We stayed for three acts: Lady Dan, Symone French, and Tedious and Brief. All three acts showcased strong lead female talents. The vibe of Lady Dan was a throwback to 90’s alt with a Cranberries/10,000 Maniacs feel. Symone French reminded me of our own Shona McNeil. I appreciated her comments about songwriting and we seem to share many of the same thoughts about the writing process. Tedious and Brief-wow. Energy. Stage presence. Strong song concepts. They got my attention. In fact, they got the audience up dancing. Completely infectious- they gained a new fan last night, for sure. Gonna keep my eyes on that one.
As we were leaving, we saw my friend Brook McGinnis from the museum and my old buddy Mr. John Seals. John’s got good things going with the Wiregrass Blues Society. He graciously introduced me to Jenny Brooks who helped get the Blues Society going. Man, blues in the Wiregrass- sounds like a great thing to me.
So, there’s the pretty and the good (actually, better the good). Well, I’m feeling pretty “good” now so I’ll omit the bad. It has to do with getting older and the various aches and pains we enjoy. Let’s just say today will be one of rest and recovery. Have a great Sunday, everyone!
